For the successful implementation of Aeneis, Bayer was awarded first place in the Process Solution Award 2019 in the "Process Management" category . Thanks to consistent methodology and high internal adoption, Aeneis helped establish a globally standardized, digital process management system that incorporates GRC requirements.

Bayer AG is a global pharmaceutical and biotech company with a focus on health and agriculture. The company develops innovative solutions in the fields of pharmaceuticals, consumer health, and crop science, and operates in numerous countries worldwide. The mission of the project team was to establish a business process framework that enables high agility when implementing new business scenarios, while also providing a unified system for process documentation.

What were Bayer's challenges?

Bayer faced the challenge of making its processes more transparent, efficient, and consistent across the entire group. Process management was identified as a key lever for implementing the corporate strategy. The goal was to build a global, integrated Business Process Management system that not only increases efficiency but also compliance requirements meets and drives digitalization forward.

In particular, the aim was to establish end-to-end processes, create standards, and make process knowledge accessible to all employees.

Which software solution was used for the implementation?

With Aeneis, Bayer introduced a group-wide BPM system that combines processes, governance structures, and content in a central platform. Through the "myBPM" process portal , employees worldwide have access to the process landscape and relevant information.

As part of several projects, processes were documented, standardized, and further developed globally. For example, it was possible for the first time to fully capture all processes at a production site. At the same time, end-to-end processes were introduced, organizational structures were adjusted, and the connection between processes and IT systems, documents, and key performance indicators was consistently expanded.

A special focus was placed on digitalization and better traceability of information flows, especially with regard to regulatory requirements such as data integrity.

What was the result?

Through the new BPM system, Bayer has achieved significantly greater transparency across its processes and established a uniform, process-oriented way of working. Processes are globally available, clearly structured, and easily accessible to employees, which has noticeably improved collaboration.

Maintaining documents and finding information faster led to cost savings. The expenditure on documentation and information retrieval was reduced by more than €1 million per year for approximately 27,000 employees, according to customer estimates .Overall, the system now forms the foundation for continuous improvement, increased digitalization, and the sustainable implementation of the corporate strategy.
